Antique Carpathian Burl Bedroom Furniture — a Stunning Choice
Are you looking for only the finest furniture for your bedroom? If so, then you may want to consider antique Carpathian burl bedroom furniture. Some collectors are unfamiliar with this particular type of wood as it is quite rare. It originates from the elm tree, which provides light brown wood that was popular for many furniture choices including English provincial. The word burl is a term used for a spotting or mottling of the wood often caused by a rare growth or less commonly, a tree disease. So to put it all together, Carpathian burl furniture is a type of elm furniture that is beautiful and uncommon. To own an antique piece made from this material is a dream of many collectors.
You will find that this type of wood varies in color from a rather pale tan to a deep warm brown or almost red shade. The material is commonly used as a veneer and provides durable flexibility. You may wonder what makes this type of elm burl more special than other types. Well, first let’s take a look at its origin. The Carpathian Mountains extend for approximately 1400 miles and span several European countries including Romania, Slovakia, Poland and the western part of the Ukraine. This mountain range is the stuff of legend and was featured in the well known literary work Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The elm trees that grow in this region are highly prized for the rich, beautiful burl wood they produce.
Once you begin your quest for antique bedroom furniture made from this material, you may find that your choices are few and far between. While elm was certainly a popular material in particular time periods, such as the English provincial and Windsor days, Carpathian burl furniture was more rare. It will likely be difficult to track down bedroom pieces made from this rare wood. You may find chests or dressers with burl detailing, however.
One way to get the antique Carpathian burl bedroom furniture of your dreams is to go for reproduction furniture rather than real antiques. There are specialists out there who can be commissioned to create a piece of furniture exactly the way you want it. You can specify the material, time period, and style that you want. This type of service may come at a hefty price, but is the perfect way of getting your ideal furniture.

The Idea behind Today’s Beautiful LCD Tellies
When Panasonic formerly began building a brand new flagship array of tellies somewhere back around the year 2000, their goal was:
(+) To supply picture quality so real, TV viewers would deem that they are not basically observing but in reality taking part in the action.
(+) To highlight the sense of “really being there” by absorbing the TV spectators in amazing audio sound.
(+) To augment the experience by making a sleek, stylish, but utterly unobtrusive telly that wouldn’t divert the viewer for more than a second from what’s happening on-screen.
(+) To make using the telly as unproblematic as physically possibly while moreover taking advantage of its networking possibilities.
(+) To replicate this goal, the latest television products was agreed to be labelled VIERA: highlighting a new VIsion ERA. The result became the top selling and prize-winning VIERA selection of Plasma & LCD televisions that are available to buy today, giving you the following improvements:
Image performance: Equipped with Panasonic’s bespoke V.Real II / V.Real Pro II technology - the conclusion of months and months of extensive research and advancement that has covered the extent of the television chain from early broadcast cameras all the through to TV’s in your houses - each & every VIERA delivers visuals of breathtaking authenticity and beauty & puts you firmly at the core of the movie action.
High-quality sound: Featuring state-of-the-art digital tuners & a number of super-slim unobtrusive loudspeakers all enclosed within the sleek and slim border of the Panasonic VIERA itself, V.Audio sound absorbs you in the on-screen action.
Shiny and yet unassuming design: From the television to the TV stand, VIERA has appealing flowing curves that are nearly organic in form. This innovative approach has been the marque of VIERA televisions since the early days and gives the notion of more or less a “floating” display - that does not sidetrack you from the on-screen action. In addition, VIERA TVs have been built from the ground up with the environmental setting cautiously in mind and feature refillable bamboo loudspeakers, lead free creation, & best practice manufacturing. Ancient Greek Statues
I have always loved ancient art, but particularly ancient Greek statues and vases. As an American, living in a time where excess is the chief aesthetic, it is inspiring to see an art that revels in proportion instead of extremes. Ancient Greek statues often try to portray themes of beauty in the body, but they do not do it by overstating everything. an ancient Greek statue of a man will not be pumped up to huge proportions. A depiction of a goddess figure will not have ridiculous curves that would be out of place in any place but Los Angeles. They strive to make things look right – beautiful in a simple, human way.
Of course, like most people, real ancient Greek art is out of reach for me. There are fewer and fewer ancient Greek statues, and most of them are fragmentary. Many of the originals are worth millions of dollars, and if you even live near Museum with a good display of Greek ancient statues in it, you can count yourself lucky. That doesn’t mean that ancient Greek art is out of reach, however. There are collectible figurines, posters, photos, and other depictions that are available to everyone. From decorative urns and garden ornaments to museum quality pieces inspired by the original artwork of the ancient Greeks, there’s quite a bit to choose from.
You have to be careful, however, because not all of the ancient Greek statues are of the same quality. The rule is buyer beware. This doesn’t matter to all collectors. Some people are just looking for something that they find artistically inspiring. If this is you, look wherever your eye is drawn. If an ancient Greek statue replica appeals to you, by all means pick it up. For those of us who are more into historical authenticity, however, it can be a little harder to choose. My advice is to look at as much into Greek artwork as you can to get a feel for how it should appear. Sometimes, it is hard to judge quality until you have seen quite a few examples.
Of course, if you are drawn to ancient artifacts you might consider getting something else. Ancient Roman coins, for example, are great collectors items. Many of them are fairly affordable, and they let you have a piece of antiquity for yourself. Best of all, they can make a great conversation starter if you leave them on the mantelpiece or coffee table where they can be seen.

James Garner
Both movies and television have played a part in the long, illustrious career of James Garner. Born in 1928 in Oklahoma, he had several experiences of life before discovering show business. He signed up for the United States Merchant Marine when he was sixteen years old, a life he loved but was plagued with incurable seasickness. He then enrolled in the Hollywood High School in Los Angeles and spent some of his spare time, modeling.
After joining the National Guard, Garner served in the Army in the Korean War, receiving two Purple Hearts. James Garner then made his first appearance on television in commercials. This led to television work and supporting roles in the movies. The big break came when he landed the lead part in the comedy western, Maverick. Westerns were popular during the 1950s and Garner was a big hit with the public. They loved his easy charm and dark, handsome looks and the role of a professional gambler suited him well. The show ran from 1957-1962 but Garner left in the third season.
The role that the actor is most associated with is as private investigator, Jim Rockford in The Rockford Files. It was one of the most popular shows during the 1970s and is watched by a new generation as episodes are regularly repeated. James Garner received an Emmy Award for his performance in 1977. Just operating on the right side of the law, Rockford was a sucker for a cause and lived in a trailer, never hanging on to money for too long. The relationship with his on screen father, played by veteran actor, Noah Beery Jr added to the show’s appeal. The mix of adventure and comedy gave Garner the opportunity to do much of the stunt work himself.
Garner’s roles in movies have been varied, from light, comedic roles to high drama. He was teamed with Doris Day for two romantic comedies, including Move Over, Darling in 1963. His comedy timing was apparent again in Support Your Local Sheriff, a comic western that also featured Walter Brennan and Jack Elam. He was also part of the ensemble cast of The Great Escape, the prisoner of war film that is shown constantly on TV. The Maverick show was re-made as a movie in 1994 with Mel Gibson in the title role. James Garner gave support, playing Marshal Zane Cooper.
Garner has achieved a place in the hearts of fans and a rightful place in posterity. His star graces the Hollywood Walk of Fame and he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Screen Actor’s Guild in 2005.

Harlem Swing Dancing — the Original Swing
There’s no question that swing dance has many variations which have been developed over the years. Times change, people change, trends change. and because of it, swing dancing has also changed to suit society’s preferences and needs. However, there is one type that has remained true to its roots — Harlem swing dancing. This name refers to the style of swing first seen at Harlem’s Savoy Ballroom in the 1920s. It was here that the swing jazz craze was born.
At the Savoy Ballroom, the best dancers in New York came to use the spacious dance floor. They performed an energetic style of dance to the swinging jazz tunes being played in the bandstand. The legend surrounding the Lindy Hop is that a dance expert named Shorty George Snowden came up with the name after glancing at a newspaper headline proclaiming Charles Lindbergh’s hop across the Atlantic Ocean in his plane. Other popular dances that were frequently seen at the Savoy included the Jitterbug and the Charleston.
Like most trends, the older generation didn’t care for swing dancing at first. In its early days at the Savoy, it was thought of and called a degenerate form of jazz. It was seen as something done by the young, rebellious and according to the president of the Dance Teachers Business Association, economically unstable. Many predicted the swing craze wouldn’t last long. But it looks like swing surprised the traditionalists, gaining popularity as the thirties turned into the forties. At that time, schools and competitions devoted to swing began to pop up. Variations on the original Savoy swing began to develop.
Today, Harlem swing dancing is enjoyed by dancers of all ages, from all walks of life. There are lessons and clubs where this form of dance is practiced. One of the most fun parts is the old fashioned clothing. Most old-school swing enthusiasts like to dress the part with apparel right out of the thirties and forties. You’ll see women in flirty skirts and Mary Janes, and men wearing dapper striped suits and wingtip shoes. Another benefit to original swing is the workout you get. As you can see, there are numerous reasons why so many people these days are discovering this historic type of dance.
